Here’s a quick glance at the HELIX 2008 activities you won’t want to miss:
We’re busy gearing up for yet another great Higher Education Learning and Information eXchange (HELIX) conference on April 2-4, 2008 at Tan-Tar-A. Now in its eighth year, the annual HELIX conference continues the tradition of providing attendees with the opportunity to find new ideas, friends, and sources for professional growth. This conference attracts a large gathering of higher education IT professionals from both large and small institutions and provides a unique opportunity for networking.
Let me share with you a quick sampling of the results-focused sessions, keynote presentations and other conference activities:
Tour virtual three-dimensional environments in Second Life and explore the possibilities of this tool for distance education and for forming online virtual communities. Learn about the latest network security tools and techniques for keeping your network safe. Learn more about Web 2.0 tools and how to incorporate them into your courses and day to day work. Attend sessions on a variety of other topics, including disaster recovery, use of clickers, strategic planning for IT, Web accessibility standards, copyright and fair use and so much more.
The Web Design and Development track, hosted by the Missouri Higher Education Web Professionals, includes several presentations on topics of special interest to those people who are responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining higher education websites.
In addition to the 45-plus breakout sessions, the program also includes two keynote presentations. Dr. Mark Milliron will share his insights a new generation of learners and Dr. Dwight Allen will explore the idea of wikis as an alternative to traditional textbooks.
The conference is a great time to talk with MOREnet staff to get the latest updates on the various services that we deliver and ask any questions that you might have. Also visit with exhibitors and see the latest technology tools and gadgets at the exhibitor fair.
Last but certainly not least, we have a variety of social events planned, including a Wednesday afternoon golf outing followed by a grand opening reception featuring wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres that evening. Thursday evening will include an exhibitor reception followed by a Texas Hold ‘Em contest.
There’s something for everyone at HELIX 2008. See you there!
