Internet Safety Night - April 23, 2008

On April 23, 2008, MOREnet will host a full day of Internet Safety activities, including three student assemblies and the Internet Safety Night event for parents and community members.

Internet Safety Night is coming up soon! Please register your site and join us for this nationwide event that brings information and resources to students, parents and members of the community to help us all stay safer online. Topics include online predators, cyber-bullying, identity theft, P2P and other Internet-related issues.

We are inviting communities to pull together local experts and resources — students, parents, teachers, law enforcement and community members — to begin a discussion about the importance of Internet safety. These local discussions, occurring simultaneously all around the country, then connect to the national host site in Columbia, Mo. and participants at any of the connected events can see, hear, ask and answer questions in real time with participants at any of the other sites!

In addition to the evening event, MOREnet will also host three daytime Internet safety videoconferences. The presentations will cover the same issues as the evening event but will be targeted more to middle and high school students. Other students and classrooms from around Missouri are invited to participate via videoconferencing and video streaming to hear the information and discuss with their peers. Student events will be at 12:45 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. CDT on April 23. Each session will be about 40 minutes.

Speakers include: James Finch, Assistant Director, FBI; Chris Pickering, MO Attorney General’s Office; Andy Anderson, Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force; Joe Laramie, MO Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force; John Wood, US Attorney, Kansas City; and Miss Missouri, Lindsay Casmaer, victim of Internet harassment.
